2012 Spring Budding Norton
2012 Spring began with a hard freeze late April. We encountered severe damage to the primary buds on the Chambourcin and Vignoles. The St. Vincent was hit the hardest and unfortunetely we will not see any fruit from those plants. So for those of our customers that love the St. Vincent single varietal wine, we will not have that available again till I see fruit in 2013.
The Norton and Vidal look great, and looks like secondary buds are producing some fruit clusters albeit not as much as we would like to see under normal conditions.
We are just excited that the plants are recovering and we will know later on this season how well the fruit quality will be at harvest.
The first suckering has been completed as of May 14,2012 week. The rows have been sprayed and cultivated and its time for another spray to protect the fruit we have on the vines from disease.
